Example site by North Shore Digital — Camber House is fictional. Everything on it works.

Four rooms above the bay, and nothing much to do.

Four rooms · breakfast until ten Sunset at 19:42
The house

Built in 1974, and not much has changed since.

Camber House was a family home for forty years before it was anything else. We've put in bathrooms and taken out one wall, and otherwise left it alone — the stinkwood floors, the deep windows, the slightly alarming staircase.

Breakfast happens at the long table in the kitchen and runs until ten, because nobody should be rushed on holiday. There's no bar, no spa, no conference facility and no buffet. There is a view, a very good cup of coffee, and four rooms.

We're on the mountain side of the valley, four minutes' walk above the beach and about six from the harbour by car. The wind does what it does in Hout Bay; the house has been standing in it for fifty years.

This is an example site. Camber House is fictional, so the request goes to Felix at North Shore Digital, who built it. On a real guesthouse's site it lands in their WhatsApp exactly like this.

JavaScript is switched off, so the calendar isn't running. Rooms are R1 550 to R2 950 a night including breakfast — WhatsApp 060 591 0718 with your dates and we'll come back to you.

Breakfast included
At the kitchen table until ten. Eggs however you want them, and the bread is from the bakery at the bottom of the road.
Free parking
Off-street behind the gate, one space per room, and the gate is on a battery backup.
Free cancellation
Up to 48 hours before you arrive. No fee, no questions, no form to fill in.
A day here

What a day actually looks like.

  • The boats go out

You'll hear them from the Karbonkel balcony if the window's open. Most people sleep through it. Some people set an alarm for it.

  • Breakfast starts

At the long table in the kitchen. Eggs cooked to order, bread from the bakery down the hill, coffee that we are slightly obsessive about. Runs until ten and we mean it.

  • The beach, or the mountain

Four minutes down to the sand. Chapman's Peak trailhead is a ten-minute drive, and the Kloof Corner path starts near enough to walk to if you're feeling strong.

  • Lunch at the harbour

Fish and chips on the wall, or something more organised at one of the places on Harbour Road. We'll tell you which is which.

  • Wine on the terrace

We put a bottle and some glasses out. You pour your own and pay on an honesty list at the end, which has never once been a problem.

  • The light goes over the Sentinel

Everyone stops what they're doing for about four minutes. It's the reason the house faces the way it does.

What people say.

Illustrative only — Camber House is fictional, built to demonstrate a real website.

Picked our dates on the website and had the price in about ten seconds. Booked it standing in an airport.

Breakfast until ten is a small thing that turns out to be an enormous thing.
Google review
We sat on the balcony every evening and did absolutely nothing at all. That was entirely the point.

Questions

Things people ask.

What time can we check in?
From 14:00, and check-out is 10:30. If your flight lands early we'll store your bags and point you at the beach — most people do exactly that.
Is breakfast really included?
Yes, for everyone, every morning, cooked to order at the kitchen table until ten. Tell us about allergies when you book and we'll work around them.
Can we cancel?
Free up to 48 hours before arrival. After that we charge the first night, because at four rooms an empty one is a real loss rather than a rounding error.
Do you take children?
In the Loft and the Garden Room, happily. The Sentinel has a balcony we'd rather not put a toddler on, and we'd rather say so than have you find out.
What happens during load-shedding?
Nothing you'll notice. The house runs on an inverter — lights, wifi, the gate and the coffee machine all stay up. Hot water is gas.
Is there parking?
Off-street behind the gate, one space per room, no charge. The road outside is narrow, so please don't park on it.
